Manually Sync

A videographer has a deposition transcript and video she would like to synchronize manually.

Apart from synchronizing a transcript automatically with RapidSync, SYNC provides a manual option to go through the transcript line by line and fill in timecodes as the video plays.

Note: Use the Skip for Now option in the Create a DVT wizard to avoid RapidSync. For more information, see the "How to" topic Use the Create a DVT Wizard.

To manually sync a transcript, the videographer opens the deposition video and transcript and uses the following steps:

  1. Click Manual Sync in the Transcripts ribbon bar.
  2. The videographer clicks the Manual Sync button on the right of the ribbon bar in the Transcripts tab.

Manual Sync mode activates at the line the videographer currently had selected in the transcript. This way, if the videographer had started in the middle of the transcript, she would not lose her place.

  3. Click a line as a starting point.
  4. If the selected line isn't where she wants to start the manual sync, the videographer clicks on the line in the transcript where she wants to begin.

  5. Play the video.
  6. The videographer clicks the play button.

Note: Use the Pause hotkey to toggle the video on and off. For more information, see the Sync Hotkeys topic.

  7. Press the spacebar each time the video reaches the desired point in the line.
  8. Every time the videographer presses the spacebar, a timecode is entered next to the selected line according to the current timestamp of the video.

The videographer follows this method all the way through the deposition video.

Note: As the videographer makes changes in Manual Sync mode, at any point during the process, she can click the Save Changes button in the ribbon bar. When she clicks this button, her progress up to that point is saved.

Mark Multiple Lines as Unspoken

There are several lines in the transcript that the videographer wants to mark as unspoken lines. She can use the following steps to change the lines all at once:

  1. Select all of the unspoken lines with the mouse.
  2. To select all of the lines, the videographer clicks and holds down the left mouse button on the first unspoken line she wants to mark. She then drags the mouse down to the last line she wants to mark.

  3. Press the X key on the keyboard.
  4. The videographer presses the X key. All the lines she selected are marked as unspoken.

Exit Manual Sync Mode

To exit Manual Sync mode, the videographer uses the following steps:

  1. Click the Manual Sync button again.
  2. The videographer clicks the Manual Sync button to exit Manual Sync mode.

A dialog appears prompting the videographer to save the changes she made with Manual Sync mode active. The dialog contains the following options:

    • Save - The changes are saved immediately
    • Don't Save - The changes are not saved and will be lost when she closes the transcript
    • Cancel - No action is taken
  3. Click Save.
  4. The changes are saved.

If the videographer had clicked Don't Save, the changes would still appear, but they would not be saved. Then, if she closed the transcript or the application without saving, the changes would be lost.

After the videographer synchronizes a transcript, she has the option to review it.
