Quality Control Best Practices

A videographer uses the following best practices while working in the Quality Control (QC) area to ensure the efficient use of her time:

Work Smart, Save Often

With the amount of changes being calculated in the system, it is a best practice to make changes in small, manageable increments and then save those changes often. For example, the videographer verifies potential errors in QC 10 to 20 at a time and then immediately clicks the Save Changes button.

This way, if an error occurs and any changes are lost, she can revert to a previous version she recently saved and get right back to work.

Think of it as working in Microsoft Word: Save early, save often.

Trust the Sync Engine

If the audio quality of the deposition is clear, RapidSync provides up to 100% synchronization accuracy. Set the reporting threshold in SYNC User Preferences to its lowest to not have to sift through as many Questionable Timecodes.

Use the Sort By Dropdown

The timecodes appear in transcript order by default. This option shows the errors as they appear in the chronological order of the transcript, regardless of whether they are missing, questionable, or out of sequence. But there can be several hundred flagged timecodes in one DVT. To see one group of timecodes at a time, select filters from the Sort By dropdown at the top of the results panel to have that type of error appear first.

Navigate with Hotkeys

Using the hotkeys in QC drastically increases productivity. The hotkeys tab can be seen in the Tools panel. If it is hidden, open SYNC User Preferences from the SYNC Start Page, select the Quality Control tab and deselect the “Hide Hotkey tab” checkbox. Now the hotkeys are available for reference in the Tools panel of the QC area.

Multi-Select and Right Click

If there are several missing timecodes that need to be marked as unspoken in succession, click and drag over all the lines (even over different blocks) to highlight all of the timecodes, right click, and select “Mark as unspoken”. All of the highlighted missing timecodes are marked the same.

This method also works with marking questionable timecodes as accepted.

Note: Right-click is not available on TrialDirector360.com. Instead, the same options can be found above the transcript when Quality Control is open.
